Darlington-based Ruck Engineering has strengthened its more than 25-year relationship with Northumbrian Water with the installation of a new zero-emission industrial hot pressure washer system at the company’s Bran Sands treatment works on Teesside, replacing the existing diesel heated system.

Since 1997, Ruck Engineering has supplied industrial cleaning equipment to Northumbrian Water sites across the North East, including Willington, Washington, Consett, Pity Me, Howden, Seaham, Hexham, Durham and many more.

The Bran Sands installation represents the continuation of a long-term partnership with NWL that has seen more than two dozen Ruck Engineering bespoke cleaning systems throughout the NWL network.

The latest model to join the fleet is the MAC Plantmaster Electric, a market-leading zero-emission hot pressure washer developed and built by MAC International, part of the Ruck group, and is representative of a major shift towards cleaner alternatives throughout the North East and UK wide. Ruck is experiencing a real move in the traditional pressure washing market towards the MAC all-electrically heated range, offering a combination of no diesel emissions and outstanding performance.

Bran Sands is one of Northumbrian Water’s most important treatment facilities, serving the Teesside population.

Established in the 1990s to treat both industrial and municipal wastewater, the site has since evolved into a high-performing sludge treatment hub incorporating thermal hydrolysis for energy generation through biogas. Its role makes it central to Northumbrian Water’s sustainability and clean growth initiatives.

Simon Ruck, Managing Director of Ruck Engineering, said: “We are very proud of our long-standing relationship with Northumbrian Water, which stretches back more than 25 years. To have supplied equipment to so many of its sites across the North East is a source of real pride for our business and our team of skilled engineers in Darlington.

“What is particularly exciting is how we have been able to innovate alongside our customers. The installation of the Plantmaster Electric at Bran Sands demonstrates how we are helping companies like Northumbrian Water reduce carbon emissions across their operations, while continuing to deliver the performance and reliability they need.”

Lyn Coates, Bioresources Logistics Manager, Northumbrian Water, said: “Strong supply chain relationships are essential to the way we deliver for our customers and communities. Working with local businesses like Ruck Engineering means we can access innovation, strengthen our regional economy, and ensure our sites are supported by partners who understand our needs.”
